Hezekiah Held fast to God (like none before or after him.)

II Kings 18:6  He held fast to the LORD and did not cease to follow him; he kept the commands the LORD had given Moses. (NIV)

He clave to the Lord (KJV)

For he clung and held fast to the Lord (AMP)

Steadfastly clinging to God, Hezekiah made a reputation for himself that challengingly points out a path.  Studying greatness in most venues means studying us and our ways.  Clinging to greatness for Hezekiah meant an unyieldingly tight partnership with God.  He would not let go. It was all about God.

Other great men paraded this trait for us to observe.  Abraham refused to leave his sacrifice until God blessed it.  Jacob clingingly wrestled with the Angel of Lord until he was blessed.  Elisha wisely sought after Elijah to partake of his encounter with God and be showered with a double portion of God's enablement.

Surely by now, we can conclude that Hezekah valued partnership with those stronger than himself. That meant God was his first and primary partner.  That meant finding the values and lifestyle God, Inc. proposed and making them his own.

Clave is a word that evokes almost a painful picture.  When I think of that word, I think of someone holding on to an item so tightly that their flesh becomes one with the item.  There is a searing, ripping unity that knows no pain, just to cleave and never let go.  There is a desperation to be changed that knows to cleave.  There is a compunction that understands nothing else can be in your hand when you grasp so diligently a single item.  This was a man, who had no thought of retreat from greatness for himself and those he led.

RESPOND WITH ACTION:  A God partnership is invaluable to greatness.  When we cleave to Him, we have attached ourselves to success and a great partner.  How are you going to show yourself that you are cleaving to Him?  What will you drop in order to use the open hand to cleave?

PRAY WITH FAITH: Father, we cleave to You.  We hold fast to You.  We grasp tightly You.  What must leave our hands?  What must we drop in order to grasp more tightly You?  What is hindering?

HOLD FAST!
